Crime Rate Plummets in Downtown

The LAPD's mid-year review provided encouraging statistics for Downtown neighborhoods. Citizens will be pleased to learn that overall crime is down 32% from last year and homicides fell from nine to two, both of which were solved. Central Division Capt. Jodi Wakefield attributed the success to increased police patrolling of the Skid Row area. 50 additional officers have been keeping tabs on Skid Row as part of the Safer City Initiative that began in September 2006.
