LA Convention Center Goes Even Greener

Making your home eco-friendly is one thing, but greening the massive LA Convention Center is an entirely different proposition. The general manager of the Downtown facility, Pouria Abbassi, intends to do just that with $3 million in planned renovations for the structure. Covering over 54 acres of land and providing more than 4 million square feet of space, this project will be an intensive undertaking. Yet, the LA Convention Center is still currently way ahead of the competition of in other metropolitan areas. The Center runs on 20% renewable energy, generates solar power from rooftop panels, aggressively recycles waste, and recently upgraded it's lighting and A/C efficiency. The next milestone Abbassi hopes to achieve is the U.S. Green Building Council's certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a.k.a LEED. These eco-conscious overhauls will go a long way in improving the Convention Center's reputation, which will help to attract more exhibitions and thereby increase revenues for businesses in Los Angeles.
